About Sarah

Hello, my name is Sarah Cunliffe. Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. I offer both long term and short term therapy. (There are no minimum number of sessions required.) And i also offer a free 15 min assessment, to talk through what you are looking for in your counselling sessions, and to gain an idea of what it might be like to work with me.

I am a fully qualified and insured Person-centred counsellor. I am a registered member of the British Association of counselling and psychotherapy(MBACP)

The core of my practice is to offer you a confidential safe space where you feel supported, understood and respected without feeling judged. My aim is to support you while you explore whatever issues may be causing you distress.

As a Person-Centred counsellor I believe that a person has the ability to decide what is right and best for them, and by exploring our thoughts, feelings, emotions, and experiences and having a better understanding of them, gives us the tools we need to make positive changes. I feel strongly about helping you to strengthen your own ability to identify and implement solutions that are right for you so that you feel empowered and able to draw on your inner resources no longer needing me.

I have worked with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds with wide-ranging issues, I started my career in Nursing 25 years ago and worked in a variety of specialities with adults with both physical illness and mental health issues. which led me to appreciate the benefit of good counselling and psychotherapy.

I provided counselling for Leicester Women's Counselling centre for several years. This is a service that works to improve the lives of women and girls with very complex and multiple needs or who are victims of abuse and/or trauma.

I also volunteered for Samaritans as a listening volunteer. My training was three months long, based on nine modules that focused on empathic communication. I was trained to help clients with emotional distress and suicidal thoughts by communicating with them over the phone, via text, e-mails, and face-to-face.

I am currently working with First Step in Leicester working with men who are survivors of sexual abuse and trauma, alongside my private practice, that is based in Blaby Leicestershire and my online therapy practice.

So i have a great deal of experience working with domestic abuse and violence, sexual abuse and sexual violence and work closely with clients who have trauma related ongoing issues such as PTSD, depression, anxiety, panic, obsessive compulsive disorders and eating disorders.

i also specialise in helping clients who are Neurodivergent (ADHD ASD) and understand how these conditions can affect counselling and psychotherapy as well as everyday life.
