Thinking about a private ADHD assessment in the UK?
Here’s what you need to know to plan clearly – including potential treatment costs, not just the initial appointment.

How much does a private ADHD assessment cost in the UK?

Private assessments typically start from around £675. You’ll usually begin the assessment process by filling in a detailed questionnaire, with an extra perspective from someone who knows you well. A specialist will review this before your appointment, which tends to last between 90 to 120 minutes. Most people receive a verbal diagnosis at the end, along with a chance to discuss next steps.

Afterwards, you’ll receive a full diagnostic report, plus an action plan for what follows.

At Augmentive, your assessment is with a consultant psychiatrist who specialises in ADHD. All of our experts are on the GMC’s Specialist Register – so you know you’re getting the highest quality care, from people who’ve seen it all before.

What happens after the assessment?

If ADHD is diagnosed, you might choose to start medication. This begins with a titration process: roughly three follow-up appointments across approximately three months, to find the dose that works for your brain. This may be longer or shorter depending on how fast treatment is optimised.

Each follow-up is around £250.

Once you’re stable, most people move to shared care – where your NHS GP oversees your prescription and ongoing treatment.

Medication costs

If you're not yet under shared care, expect to pay around £90 a month for medication. Prices vary depending on dosage, type, and pharmacy – but NHS prescriptions typically reduce that cost significantly once your care is transferred.

Summary of typical costs

  • ADHD Assessment: from £675
  • Follow-ups: £250 per session (usually 3 sessions but this can vary)
  • Medication: around £90/month until shared care begins

The hidden costs of undiagnosed ADHD

ADHD doesn’t just impact how you feel – it affects your finances too. Things like forgotten deadlines, impulsive spending, and missed appointments can quietly stack up. Research suggests these indirect costs can add up to around £1,600 a year.

That’s why getting the right support matters – because the cost of not acting can be even higher.

You don’t need to figure this all out on your own.

Our ADHD specialists are here to help you move from “what if?” to a personalised plan that actually works. As Augmentive, appointments are typically available within 48 hours.
