A mixed media artist researcher, facilitator, collaborator, communicator and human advocating for and working within the area of mental wellbeing as I have lived experience of mental illness.
I liken my process to cognitive behavioural therapy: deconstructing, reconstructing and recycling images/ideas to better understand, rebuild and reimagine them. I put emphasis on learning through process, research, play and experimentation.
Accessibility and diversity are at the core of my work; ensuring all voices are heard. Embracing nonverbal communication/ different ways to express ourselves, I believe visual grammar should have equal weight to the written word.
I’ve worked with various organisations that are leaders in the field of mental health such as Bethlem Gallery, Shape Arts, Outside In, Artistic UK, Maudsley Charity and Mind.
Over 100 pieces of my artwork can be found within the Wellcome Collection, I’ve had work published with the Psychologist, British Medical Journal, and Lancet Journal of Psychiatry for whom I was also the cover artist.
More recently I have been focused on action research for change working alongside mental health researchers to identify potential problems within the field and use creative thinking to imagine solutions. Using creativity, the findings of academic research within mental health become more widely accessible.
