Dr Sanjay Nelson is a Consultant Psychiatrist with over 15 years of experience supporting adults with neurodevelopmental conditions and learning disabilities. At Augmentive, he specialises in the diagnostic assessment of autism in adults – providing clear, personalised evaluations for individuals who may have gone undiagnosed for years.Alongside his work at Augmentive, Dr Nelson is the Clinical Director for Learning Disability Services at East London NHS Foundation Trust. He brings a calm, person-centred approach to care, grounded in both clinical expertise and a deep commitment to equity.

“My passion is about reducing health inequalities and inequities in people with learning disabilities and autism. In my experience as a diagnostic clinician, people who have been diagnosed autistic can find that it helps them understand their strengths better and make the reasonable adjustments they deserve within both education and employment.”

Dr Nelson is known for supporting people with complex needs through clear diagnosis and ongoing care that recognises each individual’s strengths and challenges. He also plays an active role in teaching, supervision and service development – delivering training to multidisciplinary teams and overseeing doctors in specialist training.

He continues to contribute to research and quality improvement projects, with a focus on making neurodivergent support more inclusive, effective and accessible.
