Yes.
Prescriptions take roughly 7 days to be processed and are issued via an electronic prescription service. The pharmacy is notified by email. The hard copy is then posted to the pharmacy by special delivery and should be received within 1-3 days. Please note the pharmacist can only dispense medication when they receive Dr Khalid's hard paper copy as it is a controlled medication. Dr Khalid does not charge to write prescriptions during the titration period (3 months). You will however have medication costs from the pharmacy as this is a separate service to Augmentive. When the prescription hard copy is received, the pharmacy will contact you directly to take payment and to arrange a delivery date.
If there is no history of heart conditions in the family then the tests required are: blood pressure, height, weight, pulse (these can be done at any pharmacy). If there is a history of heart conditions in your family the tests required are: blood pressure, height, weight, pulse, bloods and an ECG (the bloods and ECG would need to be requested at your GP surgery). You will be asked to provide your current BP, HR and weight prior to every follow-up review appointment. Your physical parameters are required in order to monitor and manage your medication response appropriately.
Dr Khalid needs to monitor the medication during the titration period. It is his medical advice that this is done by booking follow-up appointments to discuss. Questions about side effects, mood changes, dose changes or changing medication can be asked at a follow-up appointment. Please do not ask these questions in-between appointments over messages as these are not always seen by Dr Khalid. Dr Khalid will not change dosage or medication type without discussing it first at a follow-up appointment.
There will be two pre-assessment questionnaires sent to you once your appointment is confirmed. These must be completed 48 hours prior to your scheduled appointment. For an ADHD assessment, one of the forms is to be completed by a relative or close friend. Please bear this in mind when scheduling an appointment to ensure you allow enough time to prepare and collate information that is required, i.e. GP referral/ medical history. If we do not receive the forms with enough time, we regret that your appointment might have to be rescheduled.
Yes. Once you are established on a stable regime of medication, an NHS Shared Care protocol can be set up with your GP who will then take over your care. (nb: do check with your GP practice in advance, as to whether they accept patients under a Shared Care protocol from a private practitioner, as not all of them do). Dr Khalid needs to monitor your medication during the titration period (3 months). It is his medical advice that this is done by booking follow-up appointments to discuss. If a psychiatrist initiates medication it is their medical advice that this is monitored for 3 months of follow-up appointments with them. This is called the titration process, which is completed to optimise the medication dosage. Once this titration period is complete (on the advice of Dr Khalid), you can request the Shared Care Protocol. This is a document that the psychiatrist will complete which transfers your care to your GP surgery. It is essential to speak with your GP before booking an assessment to ask if they would be happy to take over this care after the 3-month titration period. Increasingly, some GP practices will not accept the Shared Care Protocol from a private practitioner, so it is important to check this first. If the GP practice says they will accept a Shared Care Protocol, your GP then needs to review and accept this before they can issue the medication on the NHS. Our inclusion criteria as a Clinic states that our services "are for patients for whom assessment and ongoing treatment is financially viable. Each patient would need to make an assessment of that themselves."
