My experiences
I have worked with issues like
anxiety, panic attacks, OCD, depression, relationship difficulties, personal development, work related issues, divorce, ADHD, aging and bereavement
About me
I am passionate about bringing positive change into people's lives by discovering more helpful coping strategies and ways to communicate. There are times when life can become overwhelming, or we may feel depressed or anxious, have a sense of being stuck or lost. There may be particular events which are troubling, such as a bereavement or divorce. Each of those can challenge our ability to cope with our lives. I offer a supportive, non-judgemental, confidential relationship to share and explore your problems. This support can be vital at this point in your life. I am committed to on-going learning and professional development ensuring the best counselling service for my clients.
How I work
I believe that a different therapy must be constructed for each client because each has a unique story. So I work with a person-centred integrative approach and tailor it to the issues that you bring. I use the relationship we build together along with my theoretical understanding to help you gain insight into yourself and your relationships. My way of working is inspired by Person-Centred therapist Carl Rogers: "When I have been listened to and when I have been heard, I am able to re-perceive my world in a new way and to go on. It is astonishing how elements that seem so insolutable become soluble when someone listens, how confusions that seem irremediable turn into relatively clear flowing streams when one is heard. I have deeply appreciated the times that I have experienced this sensitive, empathic, concentrated listening" For me counselling is a collaborative process, in which we work together and where we talk about, reflect on, and explore your life and the experiences you are going through. I won’t tell you how to live your life, but will try to help you find a better way to live.
I can work with you short-term, focusing on a particular difficulty or problem you may be having in your life. Longer-term work can look at deeply ingrained patterns of relating and underlying issues and experiences, often from the past, which may contribute to your present difficulties.
What is next?
Making the decision to find out about counselling can be a difficult one, and making that initial contact with me may seem daunting and challenging. It isn’t easy, but if you can do it you will have already taken some very big steps towards changing.
I offer a free 30 minute introductory session for you to find out if you feel comfortable with me, identify what issues you want bring and to learn a little about the way we can work together. If you feel you’d like to proceed, we’ll arrange a first session.
