My aim is to help my clients live more fulfilling and positive lives. I encourage my clients to better understand themselves and then together we develop the resources and resilience to manage difficult thoughts and feelings.
I am a qualified, experienced integrative counsellor. This means that I don’t believe any one explanation of human psychology holds all the answers to why people feel and behave as they do. I draw from a number of theories and approaches depending on what seems most appropriate for the specific client I’m working with.
A supportive therapeutic relationship is at the heart of the work. Clients can expect to be met with warmth, acceptance and positive regard, and have their problems properly listened to and understood.
Initially, we might develop a practical approach to alleviating the symptoms of psychological distress, such as anxiety or overthinking. Then, as the therapeutic relationship develops, we might move on to more significant work, such as exploring a client's challenging emotions and thoughts.
My approach acknowledges that early experiences can shape the way we relate to ourselves and others in adulthood. The relationship between counsellor and client offers the opportunity to explore these dynamics and can provide a vehicle for growth and change.
I also work in an existentially-informed way and encourage my clients to consider their views on life and how they might find new meaning and purpose. I seek to empower my clients to lead more dynamic and satisfying lives.
I offer an initial session free of charge so that clients can share what they would like to achieve through counselling and learn more about how I work without any pressure to continue.
