I believe that the most important relationship any of us will ever have, is the relationship we have with ourselves.

I have worked for over thirty years in the voluntary sector with agencies including Citizen's Advice and Victims Support. I qualified as a Therapist in 2014 and work with clients carrying many types of trauma as well as those with anxiety and depression. Until recently I volunteered with a local hospice, working with bereaved families as well as patients.

How we see ourselves, whether we feel we are worthy of respectful relationships, being heard, sharing thoughts and opinions, listening and being listened to, informs not only our own expectations of what we want from life, but the impact we make on others, and consequently how we allow others to behave toward us. Positive communication is the key, it is something that has to be learnt if we were not fortunate enough to have been brought up within an environment where this was the case. How our parents interacted together and towards us, will have a significant effect on how we interact with ourselves and others, because it's what we've learned. So, if we didn't witness positive communication as children, we won't know how it works.
