Mary is a BACP registered therapist working in independent practice.
She is fully trained in pluralistic therapy and is able to draw on a wide variety of approaches to meet the specific needs of clients, including cognitive behavioural therapy, humanistic therapy, mindfulness and solution focused therapy.
In addition to her private practice, Mary is also a Counsellor for an Edinburgh based charity where she works with a large variety of presenting problems including anxiety and depression, work related stress, attentional difficulties and ADHD, family issues and spiritual difficulties.
Mary always respects the unique strengths, personal and cultural resources of clients and works with them to understand the areas in which they would like to see change. She provides the conditions from which clients can decide their goals and intentions which will then give the work the necessary structure and a direction of travel.
Mary works to the highest standards, offering a confidential service based on the importance of developing a secure and trusting therapeutic relationship. Her approach is warm and supportive, helping clients achieve the change they desire to improve their life and wellbeing. She has great faith in the therapeutic process from having helped many individuals improve their lives.
Working with a skilled therapist provides long-lasting benefits, giving people the tools to overcome challenges. Mary creates a safe space for the client in the therapy room which will eventually make the world outside less overwhelming, scary or upsetting. The benefits clients obtain from therapy depend on how well they use the process and put into practice what they have learned. Some of the benefits available from therapy include:
A better understanding of yourself, your goals and values
Developing skills for improving your relationships
Learning new ways to cope with stress and anxiety
Managing anger, grief, depression
Improving communications and listening skills
Changing old behavior patterns and developing new ones
Discovering new ways to solve problems in your relationships
Improving your self-esteem and boosting self-confidence
Mary has a history of working well with clients who have been previously frustrated in their search for change through therapy. She believes that being listened to at depth is a strong vehicle for change, as evidenced by a significant amount of research, which is why it provides the basis fir her counselling practice.
