About Jonathan

I have a career of over 25 years of experience of working in the field of mental health and emotional well-being.

Having worked in services across the NHS and the charitable sector, I have extensive experience and knowledge of counselling a wide range of people of all ages and backgrounds at different stages on life’s path.

The path of our life can be exciting and joyful; it can also be challenging and frightening. At times in our lives, we can all face anxiety, depression, physical ill-health, relationship difficulties, loss and uncertainty and need to talk to someone about our concerns.

Sometimes we follow our path unthinking but deep down we long to know ourselves more truly and seek personal growth and development in order to be fully alive.

Wherever you are on the path of life, I believe that therapy can provide support, exploration and healing. It is a safe space to speak out about anxieties and needs and the things it often feels difficult to say to others.

I endeavour to create open and honest dialogue with my clients in the here and now of the therapy session. This allows the client to gain increased awareness of how their mind, body and spirit respond to situations and the people around them and to discover what works well for them and where they get stuck in unhealthy patterns.  In doing so clients can understand how they contribute to their own response and move toward healthier ways of responding and living.

I offer counselling and therapy in a safe, comfortable and confidential setting in Hove and am experienced at offering sessions via video link. I also offer Talk and Walk sessions in local open spaces or the seafront if you would prefer the beauty of nature to support your therapy journey or feel that sitting in a room is not for you.

I also have wide experience of working within the LGBTQIA+ community and with younger adults 16-21yrs old.

In addition to my counselling training, I have professional development in:

·      the CBT model

·      attachment theory

·      the Fisher model of working with the legacy of trauma

·      mindfulness practices

·      mental health issues specific to the LGBTQIA+ community

·      working with shame in the counselling process

·      skills for remote counselling work online.

I am a registered member of the BACP and abide by their ethical framework and regularly have my work supervised.
