My name is Jinny Gupta and my practice in West London (Earls Court/Kensington and Chiswick) offers therapy to adults in-person and online.
I completed my training at Regent's University, London and hold an Advanced Diploma (dist.) in Integrative Psychotherapy (ADIP). I also hold a MSc in Development Economics and Policy Analysis from the University of Nottingham.
What brings you to therapy
Clients who have worked successfully with me arrive with a host of issues related to anxiety, depression, eating disorders, trauma (PTSD), divorce, relationship struggles, bereavement, or have faced issues concerning identity, cultural adaptation, meaning and life transitions.
As a South Asian woman born and raised in India and now living in the UK, I understand the challenges (and gifts) of navigating different cultures, and the longing for 'home'.
My practice empowers women to find their voice, and move towards their truth with confidence and compassion.
My approach
My work is informed by the following approaches: Gestalt, Existential, Jungian, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Using mindfulness and compassion, I invite clients to to explore their feelings, thoughts and behaviours, and where helpful, draw connections between their past and their present. As a result of our work, you will learn to develop self-regulation skills using techniques that honour the mind and the body, when and where possible, in order that they can be their own therapist at the end of our work.
As your therapist, I fully support your pace and process. In some cases, I offer a more directive approach, especially if despite years of therapy and self-improvement you feel stuck in certain negative beliefs that stymie your growth.
Experience
In addition to private practice, I work at an Eating Disorder service in Central London (Orri) and also provide therapeutic support to NHS frontline workers. Additionally, I facilitate supervision for individual and groups of trainee psychotherapists at Headstrong Counselling in London. In order to further my interest in the spiritual dimension of life, I am trained as a Mindfulness & Meditation teacher, and work with individuals and groups wishing to begin or deepen their existing meditation practice in a trauma informed/sensitive way.
In the past, I have worked in various mental-health settings such as West London NHS Trust (WLNT), MIND-Hammersmith and Fulham, Ealing Abbey Counselling Service (EACS) and West London Centre for Counselling (WLCC). Prior to psychotherapy, I worked as an Economist and Healthcare advisor for more than a decade within governments and private sectors in India, Malawi and Iceland.
