About Alison

Finding the right counsellor can be hard as not every counsellor will suit everyone. I am a person centered and integrative counsellor and I work holistically, which means I treat you as an individual, looking at the whole of you, because how you feel, think and behave is personal to you. I am calm, and understanding to your situation and help you to join the dots of why you feel, think and behave the way you do. This may mean looking at your past and seeing how this affects you today, so you can make sense of things that may seem muddled and jumbled. This may be a hard and painful experience but I will keep you safe and end each session safely so you can continue your day not feeling distressed and overcome with emotion.

I understand how difficult life and relationships can be and how hard it is to cope with changes in our lives. That life can become overwhelming and feel like constantly walking uphill and never reaching the top. Through building a trusting and therapeutic relationship we can work together to make that walk a little easier and to help you reach the top. Life may send you further down the hill at times, but I help my clients so by the time they have finished their counselling journey they have the knowledge and skills to reach the top on their own.

I counsel clients who are suffering from anxiety and/or depression. This may be caused by certain events in your life, changes you are going through or for reasons that you don’t know. Life may be an uphill struggle, you feel constantly overwhelmed and don’t know which way to turn, can’t do right for doing wrong or you feel that life isn’t worth living anymore. Maybe you’ve been abused, your self-esteem is low and you really can’t be bothered to do things, nothing is inspiring anymore and you feel stuck and trapped.

If you really don’t know where to turn then maybe I can help. I offer a calm, peaceful, non-judgemental and confidential environment where you can be you. As a counsellor I don’t give advice or guidance, but together we can work through things that are on your mind and find the answers. I believe that the answers are hidden within you and you just need some help to make sense of things and to find them. It may be like putting a puzzle back together and finding all those missing pieces to make you whole again.

I may use interventions to help you separate parts of your life or parts of who you are, which clients find really helpful, or visualisations so you can see things in a different way and understand things more clearly.

You may not know where to start and what to say in your first session, that is ok and lots of people feel this way. I can help you through this by helping you to feel at ease and comfortable and there is absolutely no pressure on you to talk about things you don’t want to. It is your time and I allow you autonomy to lead the sessions. But most of all I will support you on this journey, I will really listen to you and help you make sense of things so you can live the life that you want to live.

Remember that you can’t change other people, only you can change.
