Dr Alan Cross

Joining Augmentive in November 2025, Dr Alan Cross Consultant Psychiatrist with over 25 years of experience in adult mental health. He completed his medical training at University College London in 1999, became a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2006, and holds a CCT in General Adult Psychiatry with a subspecialty endorsement in Addiction Psychiatry. He is also an Approved Clinician and Section 12(2) Approved under the Mental Health Act.

A Specialist in Adult ADHD

For more than 15 years, Adult ADHD has been at the centre of Dr Cross’s work. From 2021 until recently, he worked extensively with Psychiatry-UK, gaining wide experience of large-scale online ADHD assessment and treatment. Earlier in his career, he single handedly set up the first Adult ADHD clinic in Newham in 2013—at a time when adult ADHD was still very poorly recognised in adults. He has since assessed and supported thousands of adults with ADHD, including individuals with complex presentations and multiple co-occurring conditions.

Addiction, Substance Use & Complex Mental Health

Dr Cross also has a strong background in Addiction Psychiatry. He has worked in specialist services such as the CNWL Club Drug Clinic in Central London and a community Drug & Alcohol service in West London, supporting people dealing with dependence on substances including cocaine, ketamine, methamphetamine, heroin, alcohol, cannabis, and prescription medications.

His broader NHS experience spans inpatient units, community teams, assertive outreach, and Early Intervention in Psychosis services. He has treated a wide range of conditions including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, severe depression, PTSD, OCD, self-harm, and drug-induced psychosis.

Research, Innovation & Clinical Interests

Dr Cross holds an Honorary Research Fellowship with Imperial College London and is an associate of the CIPRES Clinic, focused on brain science and neuroimaging. He is one of several co-authors on a live research investigating brain function in gambling disorder. His wider clinical interests include: ADHD and neurodevelopmental disorders, Addiction and substance use, The relationship between ADHD and addiction, Novel and emerging treatments (e.g., psychedelics, medical cannabis), Brain imaging and neuroscience.

Founder of Neurohaven

Dr Cross is also the founder of Neurohaven.co.uk - a free, accessible resource for adults with ADHD. The platform reflects his ongoing interest in helping people understand their minds, navigate their diagnoses, and find supportive communities that help them thrive. The website also has plenty of news, radio and free TV / film channels, free online games, and more.
