About me

I am Dolores and have always been interested in therapy. My background is in mental health. I completed a five year degree in Psychology in my country of origin, Spain. For the last 22 years, I have worked in mental health, most of those years as an occupational therapy assistant. During this time, I also completed a master in Relationship Therapy, and expanded my range of therapeutic skills. I was trained by Relate for the three years it took to complete the master. I worked for Relate for another further 5 months after qualifying.

What I can offer

We all go through times in our lives, when personal and interpersonal problems make us feel anxious, depressed and stuck. When we feel like that, it is good to talk: to untie and unravel the knots around us holding us back. Attending counselling offers you this safe space to talk about, and work through the issues causing you pain. In this safe space, you can express yourself without fear of being judged and in confidentiality. It is your secure base to move forward with your life.

I also work in a holistic, client-centred, and integrative manner. This means, that I consider all aspects of your life, and I use the therapeutic approaches that are more beneficial to your specific needs and goals. The client sets the goals, and together we will work towards those goals.

I like to work with systemic, narrative and psycho-dynamic models. I also find useful Polyvagal theory and somatic therapy to help clients to strengthen the connection body and mind, so useful to deal with strong negative emotions and to promote well being. Calming the body, calms the mind and help us to connect both.

I can offer individual, couple and relationship therapy. I have experience of working with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, communication problems, relationship problems, affairs and attachment issues.
